"All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17
I have many favorite Bible verses - almost an endless list really. I decided to share these bits of God's Word with you once a month on what I am calling "Favorite Scripture Sunday." I will talk a little bit about that verse (verses) and I would love it if you would leave comments on how that verse has impacted your life & what you believe that God is telling you through that featured selection.
I just love the description in these verses - that the Bible is "God breathed" - directly from God! Everything that we need to live a Christ-like life is in the Scriptures!
Let's go through what every "useful" word means:
Teaching - instruction, education, schooling
To me this is the basics - for any new believer and to refresh our elementary foundation - this is the beginning.
Rebuking - reprimanding, scolding, reproaching
This to me means steps to follow if we need to confront someone else with a sin that they have committed.
Correction - improvement, modification, adjustment
This is different from "rebuking" because I feel that this would be us working on our own faults stemming from our own desire to improve not necessarily from a confrontation.
Training - exercise, drill, preparation
Finally, after training our "good works" become like a "good habit" and we don't even have to think about it - we just automatically "do that good work."
It's a natural progression from birth to maturity.
How have these verses impacted your life?

II Timothy is my favorite book of the Bible. I love 1:7 For He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self discipline. Like you are saying, it is a matter of discipline until it becomes a habit. 'Lovely post. Thank you! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteOur Guidebook. And how the world would be impacted if God's people would live by His principles.
ReplyDelete'If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked way, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.' (I don't know the ref. off the top of my head.)
I love these verses because I can stand on them if someone questions my faith or my God. All Scripture is God breathed. Love it! Yes it is. :-)
