Polymer Clay Leaf Napkin Rings that You Can Make Yourself!

 photo 001_zps2a851907.jpg

Polymer Clay Leaf Napkins

This is a perfect addition to any Thanksgiving table and they are so easy to make yourself!
You will need:
- Polymer clay of various fall leaf colors
- Polymer clay tools
- leaf cookie cutters
- rope, twine or ribbon (for making the 'ring' portion where the napkin goes)
- string (for attaching the leaves to the ring)
- toaster oven for baking the clay
- glue gun

Leaf Napkins by Angie Ouellette-Tower for godsgrowinggarden.com photo 011_zps75a8f9be.jpg

Begin by taking little bits of clay from 3 different colors and fold them and twist them together with your fingers (don't totally blend the colors!! - you want to see swirls of different colors) (for the oak leaf I just used burgundy & brown but for the orange leaf I used mostly orange with some yellow and a touch of burgundy).
Now roll out the swirled clay until you have about 1/4 inch (or a little less) thickness.
Start pressing the cookie cutters into the rolled clay.
Lightly etch the middle lines in the leaves & press a hole through the bottom of each leaf (this hole is where the string will go to attach to the ring).
Bend the leaves a little to look like they are blowing in the wind (leaves are never totally flat in nature)
I put 3 leaves on each napkin ring - so continue making leaves until you have enough for your desired number of rings.
Bake according to the directions on the back of the package (checking to make sure that they don't burn).
Remove from the oven and allow to totally cool.

Take your rope or twine & braid in lengths of 5 inches - the amount of braids that you will make depends on how many napkin rings you want to make.
Using a hot glue gun - glue each braid into a round circle for the ring part of the napkin ring (allow the glue to cool completely).
Now attach the leaves to each ring using the string & tying them securely.

Place a napkin through each napkin ring & ENJOY!!

Oh the Glorious Leaves!

Glorious Leaves by Angie Ouellette-Tower for godsgrowinggarden.com photo 004_zps5cd8848d.jpg

Oh the Glorious Leaves!

I am blessed to live on a property that has many trees - Maple, Pine, Oak, Hemlock, Walnut, Fruit Trees & more!

Many people might think that having trees on your property means work - but it is "good for you" kind of work.  You are outside in the fresh air, soaking in some Vitamin D and getting a good workout - upper body from raking & lower from walking the leaf filled tarp to the burn pile or the compost pile.  It's all good!

I have to admit that I was a little worried this year that I would miss the burn deadline.  The township that I live in only allows you to burn yard brush for 2 months in the fall - October & November.  This year the leaves hung on and didn't start falling until the beginning of November - all at once!  But thankfully my husband & I made the deadline - our yard is all raked up!

ENJOY the following pictures - all taken by me (Angie Ouellette-Tower).

What Does God Want Us To Give?

"He said in a loud voice, 'Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come.  Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.' "  Revelation 14:7

What Does God Want Us To Give?

Over the past month we have been talking about being thankful and about thankful giving.  Today we will try to answer the question "What does God want me to give?"

1.  Give God the glory.  This is the most important of all of our giving.  Read the verse above - "worship Him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water."  "Glory" means exaltation, honor, praise - it means never taking the credit for something that we didn't do.  We have life through Jesus Christ God's only Son who died on the cross for our sins - we did nothing to receive that & therefore cannot take credit for it - God deserves all of the glory, honor and praise.

2.  Give what you owe - In monetary form, attitude & actions.  The verse below is amazing to me because it covers everything and it is so relevant to today's attitude of living above our means.  It's simple: pay your bills, pay your taxes, be respectful - even pay through your actions.  For example:  Let's say a neighbor was there for you when your spouse was in the hospital - they mowed your lawn and made some meals for you.  Now you hear that they are in a similar situation - pay their kindness back with kindness by helping them out in the same way.

"Give everyone what you owe him:  If you owe taxes, pay taxes;  if revenue, then revenue;  if respect, then respect;  if honor, then honor."  Romans 13:7

3.  Give from the heart.  This is where we pray and allow God to guide us in our giving - who does God want us to help by giving?  When does He want us to help them? etc.  See the verse below - not only should we search our heart before giving but then we need to have the right attitude when giving and not "give because we have to."

"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."  2 Corinthians 9:7

4.  Give without sparing.  Of course I am not suggesting that you give away your life savings but don't be stingy. Giving is a personal action that needs some serious prayer before hand - don't take it lightly and don't take it to extremes either way (too much or too little).

"All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing."  Proverbs 21:26

5.  Give to the poor.  Last week we learned about the importance of giving to the poor:  click HERE to view that entire post.

"He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses."  Proverbs 28:27

6.  Giving is more important than receiving.  See the verse below - Jesus himself said that giving is more important than receiving - giving is a blessing.

"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "  Acts 20:35

7.  Give an account of yourself.  We will all have to give an account of our actions - give an account of yourself right to God Himself!

"So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God."  Romans 14:12

8.  Give your body as living sacrifice.  In the new year we will be studying this verse & the verses that follow Romans 12:1  in more detail - so I will leave this explanation for later.

"Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - which is your spiritual worship"  Romans 12:1

Are you giving what God wants you to give?

Hi everyone and welcome to my world. I originally started this blog because so many friends were asking me for my recipes and making suggestions that I write a cookbook. Well last year when we became empty nesters and I suddenly had all this time on my hands, I decided to bite the bullet. You see I have always loved to cook and take pictures. My friends will tell you, I love to cook and they love to enjoy it. Also, ask my husband, he can testify to the thousands of photos I have that are waiting to be placed in scrapbooks.
