Fun Fridays #12 - Barbie Beach Bus & Santa

This is a series called:  "Fun Fridays".  On the first Friday of every month I will share with you an old photo or something from the recent past that made me happy;  in hopes that it will at least make you smile 😊


I am 5 years old in the picture above.  Every year my dad's employer had a work Christmas party for the employee's and their families.  They gave the most wonderful gifts!  All of the girls were given the same type of gift and all of the boys where given the same type of gift for their age group (maybe the color varied depending on what the gift was that year but they were all the same thing).  That year I received the Barbie Beach Bus (you can see the bus behind me in the picture above)!  Also, an important part of these work parties was the open skate - that is where I really learned how to ice skate and enjoyed every bruised minute!  (you will only understand what I mean if you remember learning how to ice skate).  (I'm also wearing a thick polyester dress that my mom made - it was the 70's after all!)  ENJOY!

We started growing our own sweet potatoes 20 years ago!  They were quite deformed but we were so impressed and have continued growing them every year since.  I can't believe how much life has changed since then: this was before digital cameras (well, before I owned one) and before cell phones as we know them now.  At that time we had a huge "bag phone" in our car that only barely worked when you had the gigantic antenna raised to the correct position.  I am standing with our dog Coach in this picture and he passed away in 2005.  ENJOY!

Every year in the 1970's I looked forward to raking leaves in the Fall.  I especially enjoyed running and jumping into the piles of leaves.  This was a family chore and (at the time) it was fun!  Actually, jumping into those piles was very jarring, crunchy and uncomfortable - especially since I was wearing thick, itchy, stinky, psychedelic polyester bell bottom pants!  (see picture above).  These are great memories even though fashion at the time was very painful (hahaha).  My sister was holding our cat Cream Puff and I held our kitten Patches.  ENJOY!

When I think back to my childhood, I remember many delicious treats waiting for us after school.  My mom was a stay-at-home mom during the early grade school years of my life so I was very blessed.


Since the 2017 school season has just begun, I thought that I would share 17 delicious snack ideas.  I chose these 17 recipes because most of them can either be made the night before or even placed in the fridge/freezer ahead of time and then baked as needed (I know that not all moms are able to be a "stay-at-home" parent - that's why these recipes are perfect for those situations).

This was our dog "Gourdon" - a pure breed Great Pyrenees.  It is almost 1 year since he passed away (I miss him so much).  He was different from our other dogs because he loved all other animals;  especially farm animals.  We used to take him to our local apple orchard to visit with the animals.  He would go nose to nose with the sheep and goats (these animals knew that he was friendly because they always came right up to him and never ran away).  On one occasion we walked Gourdon behind a "Cut-out-face Board" of a school bus & look what happened (see picture above)!  ENJOY!

When I was growing up we didn't take expensive trips for summer vacation and that was perfectly fine with me.  Instead, we spent every summer Saturday at Point Pelee National Park on Lake Erie.  I was about four years old in the picture above - I'm not sure if I was feeding the seagulls or if I was about to take flight with them (I was only four so in my imagination I was able to fly - lol).

Last year in November we lost our Great Pyrenees to kidney failure - His name was "Gourdon" and he was the Timbit King (click HERE to view).  Our canine child before Gourdon was "The Coach" -he was a Collie St. Bernard mix.  Coach just loved to be with us no matter where we were going he wanted to go with us - even the beach (no worries, when this picture was taken it was not a hot day and we did not stay very long).  He loved to howl along with a harmonica or along with the town tornado siren.  ENJOY!
(I just noticed that today is the 7th Fun Friday, it is also the 7th of July and Coach's birthday was on the 7th.  The seventh of January but still the seventh)
