The Fourth of Advent - HALLELUJAH!
Today is the fourth of Advent and we continue celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.  If you would like to learn the basics about Advent and about having a family worship time (click HERE to view).  
This year we will focus on preparing our heart, mind and soul to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

100 Years of Christmas Music - 2010's

100 Years of Christmas Music - 2010's

Music has always been a vital part of my Christmas celebrations, even since I was a child and into my adulthood.  During my childhood my family started out with a small radio that my parents placed on the fireplace mantel but then years later that was replaced with a surround sound stereo.  However, the real music that stands out in my memory was from Christmas Eve candle light services hearing the German Baptist choir harmonizing the songs of the season.

Even more precious than the choir music that I have memorialized in my heart occurred around the Advent Wreath during our 
"Advent Family Worship" (click HERE to read).

In this series I will feature Christmas songs from each decade over the past 100 years.
Even though we will just be beginning the final year of this decade, I thought that we have enough information to sum up this decade of the 2010's.  We just finished featuring songs from the 20's (click HERE to view 2000's)
  Today we continue our musical study with the "2010's."
This decade is known as "Twenty-tens" or "Two Thousand and Tens".  It has been a decade of many disruptions in world leadership - Hugo Chavez, Muammar Gaddafi and Kim Jong-ill all died.  In the "War on Terror", Osama bin Laden was assassinated in 2011.  The worst natural disaster (earthquake and tsunami) turned into the world's worst nuclear disaster in 2011 (Fukushima, Japan).  The Western world began an uprising against globalism with the Brexit vote (UK) and the election of President Donald Trump (USA).  In the tech world the tablet and laptop computers surpassed the PC computer.  Broadband internet and smartphones became mainstream.

This movie came out in 2017 and I hope that it will become a classic for future generations:

100 Years of Christmas Music - 2000's

  Today we continue our musical study with the "2000's."
Of course we all know that this decade was marked by the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.  Almost 3,000 people were killed on that day and it is a day that changed daily life for everyone.  This brought on "The War on Terror" which started in 2001 and continues today.
The 2000's also saw globalization increase due to the growth of the Internet worldwide.
Weather was extreme during this decade with Hurricane Katrina - the costliest natural disaster in the United States.
PASSION FLOWER - The flower shown in the picture above is a tropical plant that I owned for years (very difficult to grow in Michigan).  When the picture was taken this house plant was 3 years old and had never bloomed.  But then on September 11th, 2001 it shared it's glorious colors with us.  I had rushed home from work after the Twin Towers were attacked and the opening of this blossom was like a symbol to me that we (The American people) were going to get through this horror.
