With Thanksgiving & Gladness

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.  Serve the Lord with gladness;  come before him with joyful songs.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his;  we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;  give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;  his faithfulness continues through all generations."  Psalm 100: 1-5

One of my most precious memories from my childhood church was what one of the pastors always used to say - he would start our Sunday worship with this: "This is the day that  the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."  He would put his hands out as he said that as to glorify and thank God for a brand new day.

"Gladness" and "Thanksgiving" are two characteristics that are almost nonexistent in our society today.  Most of the time we are either complaining and whining or selfishly moping and discontented.  We are supposed to "serve the Lord with gladness" and "enter his gates with thanksgiving".  "Give thanks to him and praise his name - his love endures forever" - what more could we possibly want?

I know firsthand how difficult it is to be happy and thankful during difficult times, but just try it and you might find that you will feel closest to God during those difficult times.  If you are thankful and content that God is in control and that there is a purpose for those difficult times (even if you don't understand the reason) then your heart might just be comforted.

The American Thanksgiving holiday is only a few weeks away.  Instead of once a year,  let's try to serve God everyday with thanksgiving and gladness all throughout the year.

Please listen to this hymn - it is so fitting today:

  3. Beautiful post you don't run across to many people with a thankful heart now days. Every morning when I get up I give thanks for all the beauty that surrounds me. I give thanks to the Most High for peace love and a sound mind. I give thanks for my family and our health. I thank him for the sun, the moon and nature. Their is so much to be thankful for. Once I started being thankful for the good things in my life instead of dwelling on the bad. Depression, anger, sadness and bad luck vanished out of my life <3 Peace & love to you for putting out such a powerful word
