SQUIRRELY - Destroyer of Tomatoes
It has been a difficult year for our tomatoes. They have been attacked, torn apart, shredded, gutted and left to rot by SQUIRRELY.
In mid summer we started to notice the skins of our tomatoes left on a fence post (see picture below). I wondered what kind of animal could be so precise and get every last bit of tomato flesh. One day I was taking pictures of the tomato destruction when I heard some rustling to my left. I straightened up from a photography squat position to see this squirrel on a fence literally a couple feet from me! SQUIRRELY is the healthiest rodent in the neighborhood because he feasted on organic tomatoes all summer!
View the destruction in the pictures below.
We were able to spare enough tomatoes to preserve some sauce. Below are some recipes using my canned tomato sauce recipe.

I am so sorry about your tomatoes eaten by one of my cousins....!!!!! Squirrely looks very cute in your picture...
ReplyDeleteHope you can enjoy your preserves!
Hugs and blessings,
Ardilla
I am just in shock, because I've grown tomatoes for years, I have a ton of squirrels in my yard, and they have never bothered my tomatoes. You must have that one squirrel in the world that has a taste for tomatoes. :). Such a great picture though! What a cutie!
