Become One - February 2024 = Chapter 2, Verse 24

A couple years ago I did a series on this blog called: "Today's Date in the Bible" (click HERE to view "Today's Date in the Bible" from two years ago).  Well, I really enjoyed writing that series and felt led to revamp and continue the series.  It's kind of like letting God totally guide us in where we should study - which Bible verse or which area of Scripture.

This is how it will work - we will have the month represent the Chapter in the Bible and the year will represent the verse. Currently, we are in the month of February 2024, so we will focus on verse 24 of the second ChapterIn the previous series, I chose ten different Bible verses that fell into that specification (verse 24 of the second Chapter of any Book in the Bible).  This year I felt led to focus on just one verse that falls into that specification and not only will we study that chosen verse in detail, but we will also study the verses or maybe the entire chapter to show the context and meaning behind the featured verse.

Today's featured verse is:
Genesis 2:24

SundayDateFebruaryB

Putting it into context:

The beginning of chapter two was still detailing the continuation of the creation from Genesis Chapter 1.  We will begin at verse 8, which is after the creation but before the Fall of Man (and we will go all the way to the end - verse 25).

We begin learning about what life was like in the Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge.
(Click HERE to view: "Trees#8 - The Tree of Life" from my Tree series)
See Scripture passage below:

"The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.  And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:8-9

I find verses 10 to 14 very interesting!  (see Scripture below before I explain):

"Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads.  The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.  And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there.  The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush.  The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
Genesis 2:10-14

I'm trying to picture this in my head - so, let's try to list this out to make it easier to understand.  From the Garden of Eden, there were 4 riverheads:
1.  The River Pishon (which surrounds the land of Havilah)
2.  The River Gihon (going around the land of Cush)
3.  The River Hiddekel (The N.I.V. lists this as the River Tigris)(this river goes towards Assyria)
4.  The River Euphrates

There is a fascinating theory that there is a mountain called: "Rupes Nigra" (a.k.a. Black Rock) located at the North Pole (or maybe it is the magnetic north pole - just theorizing) and all 4 of these rivers stem from that area.

I also think that the detail about the stones is very interesting.  Gold, Bdellium and Onyx.
I looked up health benefits of Bdellium.  I guess Bdellium is actually a resin from a tree and they extract essential oils from this tree.  Those essential oils contain steroid compounds which are very beneficial for many issues (I am NOT a doctor - I simply researched online - see my disclaimer below).

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.  And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;  but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 2:15-17

Just imagine how amazing that must have been to take care of the Garden of Eden!!!

Then, after Adam named all of the creatures (see verses below):

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”  Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.  So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.
Genesis 2:18-20

Then God created Eve:

"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.  Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”
Genesis 2:21-23

This brings us to our featured verse today - verse 24 (see above Scripture at the beginning of this post).  What I am about to clarify is just stating EXACTLY as God stated it - this is NOT hate speech - it is just fact.  There is NO HATE inferred anywhere in this post.
We see that God created a woman for man- not that God created a twin man for man but rather a woman.  While "man & woman" are different, they are also BOTH made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27  "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.")
Also, notice in verse 24 we have double emphasis about male and female becoming one.  Father and mother (one perfect union), then their son leaves his parents and becomes one with his wife (man and woman/male and female).

God's creation, His plan is perfect - man & woman become a perfect union - one family!
