Rooting Blackberry Runners for a New Blackberry Plant (with RECIPES)

Rooting Blackberry Runners for a New Blackberry Plant

This year my blackberry patch has been sending out so many runners.  I thought I'd share a very easy way to root these runners so that you can start a new blackberry patch or give one to a friend.

You will need a large pot and some potting soil.

In the picture below you will see that I highlighted the runner in the left picture, so that you can compare it to the right picture.  These runners are very long.

Take the end of that runner and plant it into the filled pot (filled with potting soil).  Plant the end about 4 inches deep.  Water every few days (if it has not rained).
(see picture below):

You will notice that right after you plant it the leaf clusters are facing down towards the dirt. (see picture below):

After about 3 weeks you will notice that the leaf clusters are now growing upwards.  That means that the runner has rooted. (see picture below):

Cut the runner with snippers about 2 feet from the base of the runner in the pot.

Allow the new plant to grow in the pot for a couple more weeks before planting in it's new permanent spot.

ENJOY!
