
Homemade Hardening Chocolate Shell for Ice Cream
My favorite part of a soft-serve ice cream cone has always been that hardening chocolate shell. A few years ago I found out that it is incredibly easy to make at home. Plus, there are only two ingredients!
Printable Recipe
2 tablespoons coconut oil (the solid kind)
1/3 cup chocolate chips
In a medium size saucepan combine the coconut oil and the chocolate chips.(see picture below).
Over medium-low heat melt the two ingredients together - stirring all the time. Be careful not to burn the chocolate. Remove from the heat once everything is melted (see picture below).
A safer way is to use a double boiler to make sure the chocolate will not burn.
Allow to cool to room temperature.
Scoop your favorite ice cream (for this post I used butter pecan).
Poor the amount of hardening chocolate over your ice cream (see picture below)
In a matter of seconds the chocolate will harden (see picture below)
