Heartnuts - Heart Shaped Nuts with a Hearty Taste!

HEARTnuts- the Heart Shaped Nut with a Hearty Taste

They exist!  There is no digital manipulation to these pictures - there really is such a thing as a heart shaped nut!!

The shell and the nut itself are heart shaped.  My parents discovered these fun nuts in the county where they live where there is a Heartnut tree farm.

These nuts originate in Japan and are related to the Japanese Walnut which is an oval nut.  I don't understand how an oval nut can become heart shaped but here are the pictures to prove it.

The Heartnut has a delicious flavor also - to me it is a flavor combination of hickory nuts & English walnuts.  Plan on seeing some recipes using these nuts in the future here on God's Growing Garden.

The picture above shows both the outside & inside of the Heartnut.

There has to be something creative that I can make with these shells.........
