August Chain "Linky" CLIMB

 God’s Growing Garden

This is what Mary-Andering Creatively said about the CLIMB and being a co-host:  "I noticed a definite increase in my facebook following and I also went over 100 GFCs for the first time after hosting. I now have 543 followers on Facebook up from less than 200. I also saw an increase in my bloglovin traffic, going from just 20 followers to 85."

So you see - Networking really does work!!!

I'd like to thank everyone (both the climbers and the co-hosts) who participated last month!

Arugula - I Ardently Admire & Love it!

Arugula by Angie Ouellette-Tower for godsgrowinggarden.com photo 009_zpsc4cebdfe.jpg

Arugula - I Ardently Admire & Love it!

This wonderful green should be in a Jane Austen novel.  The first time that I tried Arugula I was offended by it's strong "prideful" flavor and for years I was "prejudice" and refused to eat it again.  Slowly, the robust flavor and tender texture softened my heart and now I am in love with this healthy green!  (for those of you who have not read "Pride & Prejudice" - the title of this post is a quote from that classic - "Mr. Darcy" professes his love for Elizabeth Bennet" for the first time & says: "I ardently admire & love you.").

Health benefits of Arugula - it is much higher in vitamins & minerals than iceberg lettuce, it is said to be cancer preventing because of antioxidants like lutein & zeaxanthin (I am not a doctor - please see my disclaimer at the bottom of this post).

Arugula is very easy to grow but should be planted in the spring when it is a little cooler.

Look at the delicate & beautiful flowers!!
When they are ready - I will show you how to save seeds in a different post.

Think it, Feel it, Pray it

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will."  Romans 8: 26 & 27

Recently on this blog we have been talking about Prayer:

"The Ultimate Spiritual Weapon" where we learned about the full armor of God (click HERE to view).

"By Prayer & Petition" where we learned how to pray (click HERE to view)

"Finding & Understanding God's answers to our prayers"  where we learned different ways to look for God's answers (click HERE to view).

"Prayer Warrior #1" true story accounts of "Prayer Proof" (click HERE to view) & remember, if you have a prayer story that you would like to share - go to the bottom of the "Prayer Warrior" post.
Today I wanted to talk a little about the Holy Spirit & prayer.
I just love the verses above! - We don't have to have a list before praying - just pray - like the verse above shows us:  "we do not know what we ought to pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us."  There might be things that we think we are praying for but God knows our motives and our true feelings.  God knows more of what we are praying for than even we do.
For example:  You might be praying for different job - praying to leave your current place of employment.  But when you continually pray this prayer  you keep thinking about your boss & hoping that he will go back to conducting his business in an honest manner.  In this type of a prayer situation the Holy Spirit takes over through "groans that words cannot express."  Not only that but the Holy Spirit also changes our heart to conform to God's will for our life - "because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will."  Maybe God wants you to stay in that current job so that you will be a beacon of light and an example for that dishonest boss - so that Jesus will shine through you!
We might not realize our true feelings about a person or subject that we are praying for until after praying for a long time.  It might take weeks, months or even years but through prayer God will change your heart & your mind to be in agreement with His will for your life.
Don't worry about using the "correct" words in prayer - just PRAY!  Whatever you think or whatever you feel - just pray about it.
Think it, Feel it, Pray it!

Zucchini as a Meal

Zucchini by Angie Ouellete-Tower for godsgrowinggarden.com photo 002_zps3dbe5b4c.jpg

Zucchini as a Meal

A couple of day ago we talked about having Zucchini as a snack (click HERE to view) - today we are talking about having Zucchini as a Meal.

Click on each title below to see more details of each recipe:

Zucchini Enchiladas
Ready to be baked for 30 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven

Zucchini Lasagna

Zucchini Lasagna

Since Zucchini is the "carp of the garden" (as my husband calls it) - freezing shredded zucchini is a must for garden food preservation:

Freezing Shredded Zucchini
Shredded zucchini in the food processor

I add plenty of shredded zucchini into my home-canned tomato sauce:

Canning Tomato Sauce

The following 5 meals have (as an ingredient) either my home-canned tomato sauce or frozen shredded zucchini:

Garden Preserved Beef Stew

Garden Preserved Chili

NOTE:  This is a doubled recipe in the pan above

Garden Preserved Minestrone Soup

I like a thick soup that requires some cutting and chewing (see the uncut green beans above) - this annoys my husband greatly so I don't always make it this way.

Garden Preserved Steamed Spanish Rice

Rainbow Swiss Chard Pasta

Zucchini as a Snack

Zucchini by Angie Ouellette-Tower for godsgrowinggarden.com photo 014_zpscea0a345.jpg

Zucchini as a Snack
I have deemed this week Zucchini week!  At the beginning of every year I always worry that we won't have any zucchini and then by August we are swimming in the "carp of the garden" (that's what  my husband calls zucchini).  To celebrate zucchini I will be sharing with you the many ways to use zucchini.
Today we are talking about Zucchini as a snack.
Last year I shared with you the 3 different shades of zucchini (Click HERE to view the entire post)

Tender zucchini is great eaten raw, cut into strips and then dipped in ranch dressing.

Below are 3 zucchini snack ideas in order of my preference (favorite first) (Please click on each title to see more information):

ENJOY!!
