Biblical Anatomy #13 - TEETH

SundayBiblicalAnatomy13

Biblical Anatomy #13 - TEETH
Today we continue studying in the series called "Biblical Anatomy."

Anatomy - is the study of parts and structures of organisms.

What is "Biblical Anatomy" you might ask?  It is the study of the structure of the Christian Body (The Christian family/church).

Today we focus on TEETH (In one of the previous Biblical Anatomy posts we learned that the teeth, along with tongue & lips are part of the mouth):

Teeth- "hard bodies attached in a row to each jaw.  Their
purpose: mastication of food, as weapons of attack or
           defense".

During my research, I found out that there are 5 popular sayings or phrases in the Bible about "teeth".

5 "Teeth" Sayings From The Bible:

- Eye for eye, tooth for tooth
- Skin of my teeth
- Teeth on edge
- Chew the cud
- Gnashing of teeth

Notice the difference in the two Scripture passages below - the Old Testament (listed first) and the New Testament (listed second):

SundayBiblicalAnatomy13C

In the second New Testament passage above, we see that it's all about forgiveness, instead of getting even "eye for eye, tooth for tooth".

Here are the Bible verses about the 4 remaining "teeth" sayings:

And I have escaped by the skin of my teeth."
Job 19:20

"And the children’s teeth are set on edge."
Jeremiah 31:29

Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud—that you may eat"
Proverbs 10:13
They gnashed at me with their teeth."
Proverbs 35:16

SundayBiblicalAnatomy13B

What is the main function of our teeth?  To eat.
I started to think about the Garden of Eden and the fall of mankind - it was eating; taking a bite of that apple that began the sin/death cycle. (see Bible passage above).
I realize it wasn't the actual "eating" that caused our demise but the decision to disobey God.  However, I like the symbolism of eating because Jesus is "the Bread of Life."  When we become a Christian and decide to accept the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life we are symbolically eating the Bread of Life.
  SundayJesusIsBREAD

We will NEVER go hungry if we go to Jesus Christ!

Learning From History #5 - VICTORY GARDEN

LearningFromHistory5(1)

Learning From History #5 - VICTORY GARDENING

Over the past few years I have been very concerned that the world is repeating history.  I know that many parts of the history that we are teaching our younger generation has been watered down and even outright twisted into a falsehood. This "history tweaking" is happening just because the truth might "offend" someone.  I know for a fact that this history twisting has happened because many of my family members lived through and remember World War II.

In this series we are going to study the difficult parts of history that might have recently, intentionally or unintentionally been overlooked.

This is the first positive history post in this series.  The previous 4 parts we studied parts of history that we do NOT want repeated.  Today, we are focusing on something that we should put into practice with or without war - I am talking about the Victory Garden.

"Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it."
Genesis 2:15

Last time we learned about the "WWII Symbolism" (click HERE to view that post).  Please click on the above link because I added very important information to that post just this week.

 _______________________________________________________

The Victory Garden (a.k.a. War Garden) was encouraged during both World Wars.  These were vegetable, fruit & herb gardens grown in residential areas, rural properties and even in public city parks.  Victory gardening occurred in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.  This helped with food supply and helped supplement rationing cards/stamps.

The Woman's Land Army (a.k.a. Land Girls) was mainly a British program (although, below you will see an advertisement about American Land Army).  This British organisation was originally created during WWI but was brought back during WWII.  It operated to place women in farming jobs that would originally have been performed by men who were serving in the military.

Below you will see many ads from WWII - it was propaganda but a good positive version of propaganda.

I added my "5 ways to save" to the first picture below:

LearningFromHistory5C

SAVE Money

Think about  how many tomatoes you can get from one tomato plant (depending on the variety  of course – cherry tomatoes will yield a lot more per plant than a beef steak) in one season.   Then think about 1 packet of tomato seeds 20 to 30 seeds in each packet!  That is an exponential amount of tomatoes & savings!  After your first year of gardening (due to the cost of the tools needed) it will be pure profit & essentially free food from your yard!  Planting from seed will save you even more money than if you bought plants.

LearningFromHistory5 LearningFromHistory5A

SAVE Health

Growing your own food is great for your health on so many levels.  First, growing GMO free plants is better for your health (in my opinion).  Manipulating seed genetics in my opinion will also change the nutritional content of the vegetable/fruit.  Keeping it the way God created it is the only way that I want to grow.
Also, working in the garden is good exercise and being outside getting vitamin D from the sun and breathing in fresh air is good for your physical health.  Thirdly and most importantly – being out in nature makes me feel closer to God and working in the garden for me is a healing time both spiritually & mentally.

LearningFromHistory5FSAVE History
By planting Heirloom Seeds we are preserving seed history (click HERE to read a post about Heirloom vs Hybrid vs GMO seeds).  Not only are we preserving our seed history but if you grow & preserve your own food then we are continuing that self-sufficiency knowledge used by the pioneers.  It used to be that the art of canning and growing was passed down from parent to child but that is now few and far between – we must preserve this knowledge & our history.

    LearningFromHistory5D

    SAVE on Waste

If you grow and preserve your own homegrown produce then you are saving on waste.  Glass mason jars can be used over and over for years and years.  Gone will be the paper, metal & cardboard packaging from your store bought preserved food.  Also, gone will be the Styrofoam, plastic wrap and plastic bags used when buying fresh produce.  And, you could even start your own compost pile and stop using your sink garbage disposal.

    LearningFromHistory5E

    SAVE Energy

Not only will you save on gas that you would use to drive to a grocery store but gas will also be saved because your food will no longer have to be transported from the farmer to your grocery store.
