The Importance of Prayer - COMFORT

The Importance of Prayer - C O M F O R T

The featured Bible passage today is 2 Corinthians 1:3&4 - it is all about COMFORT.

Let's look that word up in the dictionary:
Comfort - consolation in time of trouble or worry, a feeling of relief or encouragement, to give strength & hope to, to ease the grief or trouble of.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."  2 Corinthians 1:3&4

I just love the words "all" & "any" - two small words that make this scripture passage so powerful.  God will comfort us in ALL our troubles.  We might be feeling sadness & loneliness from the loss of a loved one, or  worry and fear about a serious illness - all troubles no matter how large or small are made tolerable by God's comfort.  Also, the fact that the word "will" is used - "God WILL comfort us." - there's no doubt there - God will comfort us in all our troubles.

Then, we are to pass it on by using this Godly comfort to console and encourage those around us:  "so that we can comfort those in ANY trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."  The word "any" is so important here - for example - we might think that worrying about a pet rabbit is worthless but we are supposed to use this Godly comfort to console others in ANY trouble.  Even if the "trouble" seems stupid to us we must comfort just as our Heavenly Father comforted us!

How do we get this Godly comfort you might ask?
Through prayer, meditation on God's Word (the Bible), through other believers, from God through His Holy Spirit.  There have been times when I felt the need to call an old friend and then when I finally make that call I find out that they are going through a difficult time and needed to be comforted.

Pay attention to the urgings of the Holy Spirit because God might be urging you to show someone that same comfort that God first gave you.

  1. God will comfort us all in our afflictions. It doesn't mean that He will take them all away, but He will grant us comfort. Thanks for a beautiful and thoughtful post.

  2. When I truly give my heart to God in prayer, He brings me a comfort that is unexplainable. A peace that only comes from falling at His feet. What a beautiful post. <3
