By Your FAITH #1 - Jesus' Miracles

SundayByYourFaith1

By Your FAITH #1 - Jesus' Miracles

We are starting a new series today and I am calling it "By Your Faith".  So many times when Jesus healed someone we read that He said: "your faith has healed you" or "it is by your faith that you are healed."  This phrase repetition warranted a deeper study.  We will begin studying Jesus' Miracles and in the months to come we will be going through Hebrews chapter 11.  This chapter in the book of Hebrews goes through many prophets and important Old Testament people/characters and specifically focuses on their faith.

Our topic today is:  Jesus' Miracles

I know, you might be thinking: "why study the miracles that Jesus performed because I can't do that."  If you recall, in the "God's Power Within Us" series we learned that we will do even greater works than what Jesus did (see passage below):

SundayPower

 Click HERE to view a compilation post combining the "God's Power Within Us" series with the "FearNot" series:

There are 7 different ways that people's faith in Jesus manifested in a healing or a miracle:
1.  By touch/hands-on
2.  By the faith of others
3.  By touching a blessed object
4.  By asking/by our words
5.  By persistence
6.  Faith with thankfulness
7.  Faith for any & all nationalities

Let's study each faith example in more detail.

Hands-on/ By Touch

In this miracle there was a ruler whose daughter had died.  The ruler had faith that if Jesus just touched her daughter she would be healed and live.  Jesus took the girl's hand and she got up!  He touched her hand - just like the ruler believed beforehand.  (read passage below)

SundayByYourFaith1a

By the Faith of Others

There was a paralyzed man who was brought to Jesus for healing.  In Mark's version of this miracle (Mark 2:1-12) they had to lower the paralyzed man through the roof because the crowd was impossible to get through.  The faith in Jesus that these men had who carried the paralytic healed their paralyzed friend. (read passage below).  This is proof to me how important our prayers are for those around us.  Our faith can help others!

SundayByYourFaith1b

By Touching a Blessed Object

This example is truly amazing - this woman had a twelve year nonstop menstruation and she believed that she just had to touch the hem of Jesus' cloak.  Just the hem.  I picture her pointing a finger and barely touching the hem.  That's all it took and she was healed.  (read passage below).

SundayByYourFaith1c

By Asking & By Our Words

In this miracle, a blind man called out to Jesus twice.  Jesus then made a point of hearing what the blind man wanted (I'm sure Jesus knew what he wanted but the man had to say it).  The man answered "Lord, I want to see."  And then he was healed!  (read passage below).
Remember how important our words are - "Life & death are in the power of the tongue." (Proverbs 18:21).  All of our words send out a frequency (click HERE to read: "Energy, Frequency & Vibration #2 - God's Word")

SundayByYourFaith1d

By Persistence

This is example is a parable called "The Parable of the Persistent Widow" (I wrote a previous post about this parable - click HERE to read that post).  The widow in this story did not want healing but rather she wanted justice (actually, in today's world justice is a miracle).  It was because of her faith and never giving up - she believed that in the end that she would receive justice.  (read passage below)

SundayByYourFaith1e

Faith & Thankfulness

Being thankful is so difficult during hardships but being thankful when a one receives a miracle should be easy.  In this example there were TEN men who were healed of leprosy and only ONE of them thanked Jesus.  ONLY ONE.  It was his faith and his gratitude to God that ended in healing. (read passage below)

SundayByYourFaith1f

Faith for Any & All Nationalities

Last but not least - proof that faith and Jesus' miracles are for everyone and not just for Israel.  The faith example in this miracle was the faith of a non-Jew centurion.  Jesus even said "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel."  (read passage below)

By our faith in Jesus Christ we are healed!

Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #148

Welcome to the 148th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "Holy Bible, Book Divine" and the author is John Burton.  This author was born and died in England.  He was a Baptist Sunday School teacher who compiled a hymnal which was originally published in 1812.  There were 43 of his own hymns included in that published hymnal.

I need to clarify something about the lyrics and meaning of this hymn.  Last year in 2025 I did a three part series on "God's Word" where I did an in-depth study on what the Bible says about God's Word.  What I discovered was very surprising.  While I still believe that the Bible is inspired by God and that it quotes God's Word, but I now no longer believe that it is to be worshiped as God Himself.  What I found out from my study is that God's Word is inside of us - it is in our hearts.  Also, I found out that God's Word is forever established in heaven and NOT forever established in written form in our paper Bibles.
Please take the time to read through all three parts and please research your own Bible to confirm that God's Word is inside of us and stands firm forever in heaven.

SundayGodsWord3

I have included two videos of this hymn after the lyrics below.  The melodies of these two videos are a little different and the lyrics are just a bit different in the second video.
Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 435 in your hymnals and let's sing:

Holy Bible, Book Divine
written by John Burton (1773-1822) composed by William B. Bradbury (1816-1868)

1. Holy Bible, book divine, Precious treasure, thou art mine;  Mine to tell me whence I came;  Mine to teach me what I am;

2.  Mine to chide me when I rove;  Mine to show a Savior's love;  Mine thou art to guide and guard;  Mine to punish or reward;

3.  Mine to comfort in distress, Suffering in this wilderness;  Mine to show by living faith, Man can triumph over death;

4.  Mine to tell of joys to come, And the rebel sinner's doom;  O thou holy book divine, Precious treasure, thou art mine.
