Moms & Caregiving

Today is Mother's Day - a day when we honor the moms in our life.
It's a day when we focus on everything that moms have done for us throughout our life, things like:
- caring for us even if maybe she wasn't feeling well herself
- putting her own desires aside to provide for us
- disciplining us with a gentle touch
- time spent just being with us even when she was exhausted
- providing a shoulder to cry on and comfort during those difficult times
- unconditional Christ-like love

This type of selfless caring should be reciprocated.  Let's look at how Jesus treated His own mom Mary.  In the verses below you will see that Jesus made sure that His mom would be cared for even when He was gone.  Biblical historians believe that Joseph (Jesus' earthly step-father) had passed away before Jesus was crucified on the cross.  This means that Mary would have been a widow during the crucifixion.  From the verses below we learn that while Jesus was on the cross, He told Mary and John (the disciple whom he loved) that they should be like mother and son.  We see that John did just that - "from that time on" (in other words, for the rest of Mary's life), John took Mary into his home and cared for her as if she was his own mother.
