DAY#8 - A Month of Freedom Quotes:
Truth is Freedom
Today we continue in a month long series focusing on Freedom. After one week of doing these freedom posts, I now realize that we are on the verge of losing our liberty. This is a serious subject - I hope that you will pray for discernment and then stand up with strength from God to preserve our freedom.
We will begin with the basics by defining "freedom".
Freedom - the absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in choice or action
- liberation from restraint/slavery from the power of another
In this Scripture passage, Jesus is talking to the Jews. These Jewish leaders were so caught up with their religious dogma that they couldn't fathom what kind of "freedom" Jesus was detailing. I imagine that they sarcastically asked their question to Jesus "How can You say, You will be made free?" (that is the way it comes across to me). They kept going back to their lineage trying to prove that they have never been in bondage.
But Jesus was talking about slavery to sin - that we are all sinners and we all fall short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23). Jesus' sacrifice (dying on the cross and resurrecting on the third day) gave us ALL eternal life - we will be abiding in God's house forever as sons and daughters.
Remember, Jesus is the way, the TRUTH, and the life (see verse above) - Jesus is the Truth - Jesus is the way to freedom.
The last verse says it all:
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
