TWENTY Top 20 - VEGGIES

This is the tenth post in my blog series called "TWENTY Top 20".  We are celebrating 2020 (and celebrating this unique decade) with this series.  In this series there will be a total of twenty different categories featuring the top 20 previously published posts on that topic.  Once or twice a month I will feature a new category.
July is the month when the garden begins to overflow with vegetables, so today I am featuring the best of the previously published "veggie" posts .
ENJOY!

(Just to clarify - I know that tomatoes are technically considered a fruit but I am including them in with this vegetable post.)
Vegetables featured in this post: spinach, asparagus, lettuce, carrots, parsnips, beets, cauliflower, cucumbers, beans, swiss chard, mushrooms, zucchini, onions, peppers, arugula

Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #87

Welcome to the 87th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "Sunshine in the Soul" written by Eliza E. Hewitt (1851-1920) composed by John R. Sweney (1837-1899)
The featured writer was educated in public schools in Philadelphia, PA.  She became a teacher but unfortunately she developed a physical problem with her spine and was unable to teach for many years.  During her illness she studied English literature and started writing poems for church.  Eventually, she become Superintendent of the primary school department of Calvin Presbyterian Church.

"Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.  However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all."
Ecclesiastes 11:7&8

I have included 2 versions of this lovely hymn (below the lyrics).  The second is A Cappella.  Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 406 in your hymnals and let's sing:

Sunshine in the Soul
written by Eliza E. Hewitt (1851-1920) & composed by John R. Sweney (1837-1899)

1. There's sunshine in my soul today, More glorious and bright Than glows in any earthly sky.  For Jesus i s my light.
 CHORUS

2.   There's music in my soul today, A carol to my King.  And Jesus, listening can hear The songs I cannot sing.
 CHORUS

3.   There's springtime in my soul today, For when the Lord is near The dove of peace sings in  my heart.  The flowers of grace appear.

 CHORUS

4.   There's gladness in my soul today, And hope and praise and love, For blessings which He gives me now, For joys laid up above.

 CHORUS

Chorus

O there's sun........................shine, blessed sun........................shine
O there's sun-shine in the soul, blessed sunshine in the soul,

When the peaceful, happy moments roll;............................... When
                                                     happy moments roll:

Jesus shows His smiling face, There is sunshine in the soul.

Fun Fridays #41 - BEACH BURYING

Fun Fridays #41 - BEACH BURYING
Happiness and laughter are so good for our health!
"A happy heart makes the face cheerful" Proverbs 15:13
(click HERE to read the health benefits of laughter)

This is a series called:  "Fun Fridays".  On the first Friday of every month I will share with you an old photo or something from the recent past that made me happy;  in hopes that it will at least make you smile 😊

IMG_0079
On the weekends during my childhood we would always spend every Saturday at Point Pelee National Park.  Those summer days are precious memories.........except being buried on the beach.  I don't know who ever thought that being trapped in burning hot sand was fun (I am claustrophobic).  I'm glad that this picture was taken because I didn't allow myself to play the "sand bury game" again - haha.  (My dad and cousin are also in the picture above)
ENJOY!
