14 Days of ROSES - Day#1
Valentine's Day is 14 days away. Love, chocolate, roses and diamonds all come to mind when thinking about Valentine's Day. This made me realize that I really don't know the hagiography (biography) of Saint Valentine.
I found multiple very different accounts of this Saint's history during my research. A common one was that St. Valentine was a bishop and protected young Christian men from having to fight in the Roman army by arranging for them to get married (married men did not have to fight)(hence, Valentine's Day being about couples).
I even found a vague reference that St. V. helped bee keepers (maybe that's why roses are a popular gift?).
My favorite account of St. V. is this:
- St. V. and a judge were discussing Jesus (St. V. was essentially witnessing to this judge). The judge said to St. V., "if you can restore my blind daughter's sight, then I will believe in Jesus." St. V. prayed and laid his hands on the judge's daughter and she was healed!! The judge immediately asked St. V. what he should do and St. V. said to get rid of all idols in his house and to pray and fast for three days. After which, the judge freed all Christian inmates under his charge and then he, his family and all his staff were baptized!!!

In this 14 day series, I will be featuring a famous "rose" saying, phrase or poem each day. As well as sharing an old rose post from the past.
(Also, checkout the 14 Day Chocolate series that I did a few years ago - they will be at the bottom of each post).
ENJOY!
