Biblical Anatomy #10 - CHEEKS

SundayBiblicalAnatomy10

Biblical Anatomy #10 - CHEEKS
Today we continue studying in the series called "Biblical Anatomy."

Anatomy - is the study of parts and structures of organisms.

What is "Biblical Anatomy" you might ask?  It is the study of the structure of the Christian Body.

Today we focus on CHEEKS:

Cheek - "is the area between the eyes and the jawline. Cheeks are complex anatomical structures made of many muscle fibers, blood vessels, fat cells, minor glands, and other tissue. As an anatomical structure, cheeks have several functions. They take part in eating, talking, and creating facial expressions.".

There were very few Bible verses with the word "cheek" but I found three very important passages.  In these passages there are three lessons to be learned:
love, forgiveness and endurance.

Both Scripture passages below (Luke & Matthew) recount the same parable but somehow I feel that the lesson is different in the way that each disciple worded their version of what Jesus said.

LOVE

In the Bible verses below we learn about loving our enemies.  Love is shown through our actions but I also believe that the emotion of love can be shown through our facial expressions (cheeks).
Let's just use the example in the parable below.  Imagine an enemy is cursing you out and calling you extremely offensive names.  Just imagine how off guard the enemy would be if you just kindly smiled back at them and responded to their insults peacefully?  They wouldn't know what to do.

SundayBiblicalAnatomy10A(1)

FORGIVENESS

I agree that you could make the point that forgiveness and love are the same thing.  Forgiving unconditionally is love and loving unconditionally means forgiveness.  But because this Scripture passage starts off with "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" - that just gives this passage a different meaning to me.
That saying "eye for eye" implies getting even, but Jesus said that we should turn our face if someone slaps us; or that we should not sue a thief when they have stolen from us.  These are very difficult situations to master.  Forgiveness when forgiveness is not deserved - that's mercy.  Jesus showed us mercy and that's why we need to do the same to those around us.

SundayBiblicalAnatomy10B

ENDURANCE

Finally, in the Passage below we are reminded why our cheeks might turn red - embarrassment.  That reaction is mention below:  "I did not hide my face from shame & spitting".  We need to read on though, we learn that God will help those who endure hardships for His Namesake.  We have no reason to be ashamed.
The saying "face like flint" means determination.  I understand this as meaning determination to endure the hardships brought on by enemies ("those who struck me, those who plucked out the beard").

Let's show God's love and forgiveness to everyone around us! - Especially during adversity!

Homemade Heart Shaped Sugar Cubes

Homemade Heart Shaped Sugar Cubes

When I was a child, I remember it being commonplace for restaurants to always have a bowl of sugar cubes on the table.  It was also normal for the waitress to ask "how many cubes would you like in your coffee?".  That routine question became obsolete in my teens when paper packets of sugar substitutes took the place of that bowl of sugar cubes.

I am bringing sugar cubes back with this post.  It is very easy to make your own sugar cubes.
Since Valentine's Day is almost here I decided to use heart shaped chocolate molds (and strawberry molds also).  At the end you will see my rustic try at actually making cube shapes.

I used granulated nonGMO sugar cane sugar (hence the darker colored cubes).

You will need:
1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar or cane sugar)
2 to 3 tablespoons filtered water

In a large bowl and with a large fork, add the water into the sugar one tablespoon at a time. (stirring with the fork all the time).  Continue adding water until it resembles the third picture below (I actually only had to use 2.5 tablespoons of water).

Place a spoonful of the moist sugar into your chocolate molds pressing the sugar tightly into each mold space (see pictures below).

Cover with wax paper and allow them to dry for at least 24 hours.
Gently turn the mold over and tap each heart or strawberry out of the mold.  (See finished products below).

Rustic traditional sugar cubes
(I pressed the sugar into a small flat pyrex dish lined with parchment paper and scored them into square or rectangular shapes before allowing them to dry):

Use in coffee or tea & ENJOY!

(They will last up to 2 years in an airtight container)

Bible Version Discrepancies #1 - THE LORD'S PRAYER

SundayVersionB

Bible Version Discrepancies #1 - THE LORD'S PRAYER

For most of my life I have been afraid of the "King James Version" of the Bible.  I always thought that it would be like reading Shakespeare - well, it's not.  Most of the time I referenced the N.I.V. (New International Version) but recently, when I need clarification, I refer to the K.J.V. (King James Version) and the N.K.J.V. (New King James Version).  In making this small switch I discovered that there are many serious discrepancies between NIV & The King James versions.  I also found out that the Bible "scholars" who compiled NIV were members of secret societies.  Whether or not there was anything nefarious behind the NIV translation does not affect the goal that I have for this series.  We are going to use our God-given common sense to compare these versions and come to our own conclusions.

It is important to note that the King James Version was first published in 1611 and it wasn't until 1978 that the New International Version was first published.

Even if we find serious discrepancies by comparing these two versions, I want you to know that I believe God has still been able to get His message across to us - He is not fazed by "misinterpretation".  His Truth fills our heart and that is why we are able to objectively study and compare these versions without losing God's meaning.

In this series we are going to really dive deep into God's Word.
We begin with "The Lord's Prayer" in two different passages:
Luke 11:2-4
Matthew 6:9-13

One of the first shocking differences I noticed was the grammar in N.I.V. - it is very disrespectful.  Many words describing or referring to God are NOT capitalized in the N.I.V. (those letters are underlined in the picture below - NIV being on the left).  Modern grammar rules have become relaxed in everyday life but that does not mean that this should apply to the Holy Bible!!

Then look at the words that were left out of NIV.  The highlighted words on the right are the words that do not appear in NIV.  I just can't see any good reason why "Our" Father should be removed, nor why "in heaven" was removed.
Why would "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" be removed?  That is such an important part - God is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, in heaven and on earth.
Finally, in this comparison the worst part is removing the comforting protection line:
"But deliver us from the evil one."  So many pastors and teachers never speak about the devil - how are we supposed to know that God is protecting us from evil if it has been removed from the Bible!!!

SundayVerion1

The passage in Matthew was refreshing in that NIV was almost the same as NKJV (not including what I call "insulting disrespectful grammar").  But this makes the passage above (Luke 11:2-4) that much more shocking.  Both passages in NKJV are almost identical, so why would the translators of the NIV decide to remove almost half from the portion in Luke?  It makes no sense at all.

SundayVersion1B

The final line in NKJV is very important and again outrageous that it would be removed from NIV.  "For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen"  That sentence is so powerful!  By removing that line, the NIV translators made their version of the Lord's Prayer wishy-washy.

Let's define those 3 words in that missing line:
Kingdom
Power
Glory

Kingdom - eternal Kingship of God, the realm in which God's Will is fulfilled.

Power - magnificent strength

Glory - worshipful praise, honor, exaltation

I pray that you will continue to reflect on these differences this week and never stop digging deep into God's Word.
