Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #133

Welcome to the 133rd Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "Immortal Love, Forever Full" written by John G. Whittier (1807-1892).  This author was an American Quaker born in Massachusetts.  As a child he was a farm-boy, then he started in shoemaking but eventually ended up being a successful journalist, editor and poet.  He was a member of the Anti-Slavery Society.

I have included two videos below the lyrics (The lyrics in the first version is a little different and the second one is a capella).
Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 169 in your hymnals and let's sing:

Immortal Love, Forever Full
written by John G. Whittier (1807-1892) & composed by William V. Wallsee (1814-1865)

1. Immortal Love, forever full, Forever flowing free, Forever shared, forever whole.  A never-ebbing sea!.

2.   We may not climb the heavenly steeps To bring the Lord Christ down;  In vain we search the lowest deeps, For Him no depths can drown;

3.   But warm, sweet, tender, even yet A present help is He;  And faith has still its Olivet, And love its Galilee.

4.   The healing of His seamless dress Is by our beds of pain;  We touch Him in life's throng and press, And we are whole again.

5.   O Lord and Master of us all, Whate'er our name or sign, We own Thy sway, we hear Thy call, We test our lives by Thine.

A special thanks to "Chet Valley Churches" for sharing this with us!

Tribes of Israel #2 - Clarifying Confusing NAMES & TITLES

SundayTribes2

Tribes of Israel #2 - Clarifying Confusing NAMES & TITLES

What I have to say today, unfortunately might "trigger" some-  so before I start I need to post a disclaimer:

I have not, am not and will not ever condone, encourage or participate in any kind of hate or violence towards any person or group of people.

After the first post in this series "The Tribes of Israel" (click HERE to view: "Tribes of Israel#1 - JACOB/ISRAEL"), we learned about the tribes and the trickery that went on between Rachael  & Leah in producing offspring for Jacob who was later named Israel.
In doing my research for what I originally had planned for this post, I became increasingly confused about certain titles and names.  Many seemed to be the same thing in a certain context and then something totally different later.  And since I knew that God blessed Abraham (see verse below), I just thought all of these different names had to do with all the lands and nations that Abraham was blessed with - I was wrong.

".......for you will be the father of many nations.  I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!”
Genesis 17:5-6

Hebrew - (not talking about the language)
- Abram (Abraham) was one of "Eber's" children, therefore he was Hebrew.

Israelites - a group of people who are part of one/any of the Tribes of Israel (see first post in this series).

Jewish or Jew - any member of the Tribe of Judah.  Judah was Leah's fourth son.

Torah - the beginning of our Old Testament - the books of:
Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy

Talmud - oral law passed down verbally since the time of Moses (there are some blasphemous verses about Jesus in the Talmud).

Edomite - descendants of Esau (later named Edom)
(this will become important for later posts in this series).  Remember, Esau(Edom) was Jacob's brother (see verse below):

“And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.”
Genesis 25:28

I was still quite confused but then I came upon this great video explaining almost everything (please watch video ):

I hope that you take the time to watch the video - it is very interesting.
We will get back to studying each tribe separately in the next post.

ENJOY!

(A special thanks to "Christian Zionism" for sharing this with us on Rumble)
