OBEDIENCE Series #1 - Christians Are NOT Excluded From Obedience

"Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him.  He who does not love me will not obey my teaching.' "  John 14:23 & 24
I know that some people think that since God's forgiveness is unconditional and unending that means that they can continue sinning or at the very least they take up a lazy attitude where they stop striving to be like Jesus and stop striving to follow Jesus' example.  Living like Jesus means that we must follow His teaching! - "They will know that we are Christians by our love" (taken from the old Hymn "We Are One in the Spirit").
When we study the verses above we see that if we truly love God the next step would automatically be to do what He wants us to do and to live our life after His example.  If someone does not love Jesus then it will also be obvious by their life (not just by what they say but how they live) "He who does not love me will not obey my teaching."

"Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them, And this is how we know that he lives in us:  We know it by the Spirit he gave us."  1 John 3:24
If we are following Jesus and living a godly life (thereby obeying his commands) then the Holy Spirit will flow from us whether we realize it or not.
"He replied, 'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.'  "  Luke 11:28

Hearing the word of God is one thing but obeying God's word and putting it into practice through our actions is the real goal.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matthew 28:19 & 20

This is so powerful! - We are supposed to teach others to obey God's Word and the most important word for me in the verses above is "EVERYTHING".
"Teaching them to obey everything" means:

- not picking and choosing which commands we should follow
- not twisting the words or the meaning in the Bible to meet our needs
- not giving verses a time limit or giving commandments a historical limit (example: "Oh that was so long ago that it no longer applies to today")

Obeying God's teaching means that He will be "with us always, to the very end of the age"

  3. What a good word. I like how you say, "Teaching them to obey everything" means:
    - not picking and choosing which commands we should follow. Oh, how we like to pick and choose!

I came over on the Turn it up Tuesday link up, and I'm glad to find your site. I also followed you on Pinterest and Twitter and tweeted your highlighted quote today.
