365 Days of Being THANKFUL - DAY#68

A few weeks ago I decided that I would start a new series on this blog called: "365 Days of Being THANKFUL".  The more I thought about it the more I felt led by God but then at the same time I started wondering if I would be able to do this for a whole year!  One month of being thankful is measurable let alone hundreds of days!
So, I'm now in the third month of my challenge - I must be able to find something each day that I am thankful for since I am so blessed.

DAY#68- Today I am thankful for a sturdy snow shovel

Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #27

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.

I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "What a Wonderful Savior!" written & composed by Elisha A. Hoffmann (1839-1929).  The first thing that I noticed was that Elisha A. Hoffmann wrote the lyrics & composed the music for this hymn.  Since I have started studying these old hymns I have only come across a couple songs that have been written & composed by the same person.  E.A.H. was very talented.

"His name shall be called wonderful."  Isaiah 9:6

I have included 2 YouTube videos of this wonderful song - please take the time to listen & enjoy!

Turn with me to number 195 in your hymnals and let's sing:

What a Wonderful Savior!

written & composed by Elisha A. Hoffmann (1839-1929)

1. Christ has for sin atonement made, What a wonderful Savior!  We are redeemed! the price is paid! What a wonderful Savior!

CHORUS

2.   I praise Him for the cleansing blood, What a wonderful Savior!  That reconciled my soul to God; What a wonderful Savior!

CHORUS

3.   He cleansed my heart from all its sin, What a wonderful Savior!  And now He reigns and rules there-in;  What a wonderful Savior!

CHORUS

4.   He walks beside me in the way, What a wonderful Savior!  And keeps me faithful day by day;   What a wonderful Savior!

CHORUS

Chorus

What a wonderful Savior is Jesus my Jesus!   What a wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Lord!

A special thanks to "StillAmazed27" for sharing this with us!

A special thanks to "TE4J" for posting this on YouTube

Other Hymns on this blog:
All the Way My Savior Leads Me
Take Time To Be Holy
Be Still My Soul
Just As I Am, Without One Plea
Revive Us Again
Oh Beautiful For Spacious Skies
We Plow the Fields & Scatter
Have Thine Own Way Lord!
Lead Me To Calvary
He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought
O God Our Help in Ages Past
