A Joyful January with No Complaining

A Joyful January with No Complaining

January seems to be the most grumpy month for most people living in the northern hemisphere.  I constantly hear whining about the weather, the cold,  the snow or ice,  the lack of sunshine,  the frigid temperatures and continuous complaining about having to drive in wintery conditions or having to shovel snow.  Even passing strangers will grumble and complain about winter.
I thought: "What a perfect time to work on NOT complaining."

Now, I have to admit that I like winter - I think snow is beautiful and I enjoy skiing, ice skating and I even enjoy shoveling snow, although I have been known to complain about having to drive on icy roads.  Seriously though, let's look at what God has to say about complaining & about being joyful.

"Do everything without complaining or arguing" Philippians 2:14
This should be an easy one - perform every action with no complaints or arguments.  However, in our spoiled whiny society it seems rare to hear somebody express joy and thankfulness.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."  Romans 15:13
Our joy comes from God through His Holy Spirit and it is this joy that others will see in us and come to know Jesus Christ.

"Clap your hands, all you nations;  shout to God with cries of joy"  Psalm 47:1
This Godly joy will overflow through praise & worship

"and the ransomed of the Lord will return.  They will enter Zion with singing;  everlasting joy will crown their heads.  Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away."  Isaiah 35:10
I just love this: "everlasting joy"!!  Of course, here on earth there will be times of depression, times when we struggle and are upset but we have the assurance of spending eternity with our Lord and Savior when we will have everlasting joy!

"Though you have not seen him, you love him;  and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy"  1 Peter 1:8
This also touches my soul: "filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy".  It's so true, there are so many times when words just cannot express the joy that God gives us.  Rest assured that our Lord will find a way to shine His joy through our actions.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do , do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
To me "glorifying God" is pure joy!  No matter what we do - we must glorify God.

Let's try to stop complaining and make the month of January and every month Joyful!
