The Basics - How to Cut, Core & Peel an Apple
I know that we are all in different stages of experience when it comes to cooking, baking & preserving - that is why a few times a month I concentrate on "The Basics".
Whether you are baking an "Apple Pie with Walnut Crumb Topping" (click HERE to view recipe) or "Apfelkuchen - German Apple Cake" (click HERE to view recipe) - you will need to know how to cut, core & peel an apple.

I use a paring knife to cut, core & peel - however, some people prefer peeling with a potato peeler.
1. Wash the apple

2. Cut the apple into quarters (see picture below)
NOTE: - if you are using a potato peeler to peel then you will want to do that before quartering the apple

3. Cut the core out of each quarter piece of apple
(see below)

4. Peel the apple (again - if you are using a potato peeler it is easier to peel before you cut into quarters.

5. Slice and use in whatever delicious recipe that you are making.
