Mongolian Giant Sunflower Variety

I can't believe that it is September already!  September is SUNFLOWER Season here in God's Growing Garden.  Every year, during the month of September (and sometimes going into October), I feature the sunflower varieties that I grew during the summer.  I grew 5 different sunflower varieties this year but one of them didn't germinate, so I will only be featuring 4 varieties in the Sunflower Series of 2022.  Today, I am featuring the MONGOLIAN GIANT variety.  This variety is probably the tallest variety that I have grown so far (back in 2012 I grew the "Mammoth" sunflower but that didn't come close to the height of "Mongolian Giant").  Since this variety is so tall, you will notice electrical lines in most of the pictures.  Thankfully, I had one of the Mongolian flowers that grew in a stunted manner - so I was able to get some close, detailed pictures of the actual flower head.  We also had a raccoon attack near the end of the season, so some of the pictures will show the flower on the ground as I found them after the attack.

Before showing the featured pictures, I realized that after 11 years of featuring sunflowers I have never explained why they are my favorite flower.  Sunflowers always turn towards the sun - you can literally see them gently turning throughout the day to follow the sun.  To be very clear - I am NOT a "sun" worshiper.  However, I am a "Son" worshiper:  Jesus Christ The Son of God and I strive every day to grow and turn towards Him in every aspect of my life.

The following 3 photos are of the one stunted Mongolian, which allowed me to take some closeups of the flower head.  The birds absolutely loved these seeds and you will notice the third photo shows the empty spaces where the seeds were.

The next 2 are ground shots of the flowers after the raccoon attack (hopefully the sweet potato patch won't be bothered by their new sunflower neighbor).
